It was the end of our stay at the log cabin and our next stop was the capital, Reykjavic. We packed the car and drove west for our final stay in Iceland.
Check-in wasn't until the afternoon and so first on our to do list was a spot of urban sight-seeing. Nearest was Hallgrímskirkja, the largest church in Iceland and also the most striking with it's concrete facia. It provided a nice shelter from the rain and to our surprise, instead of choral music inside, the Star Wars soundtrack was playing through their sound system.
Next we walked around the city and down the shopping streets. We also tried to visit the Icelandic museum but it was closed.
For lunch we ate out for the first time all week and tried the local ale which was just as good as back home. We played cards at the restaurant for a good hour until we decided to try and check in early at our Airbnb.
Fortunately the apartment was ready for us and we now had a base to relax and stay warm and dry in. We watched a film on the big flat screen tv for a couple of hours before walking down to the harbour for sunset and picking up some food to cook back at the apartment.
It was an early night for us all as we had to be up at the crack of dawn for our flight home the next day.
It was the end of an epic trip, the greatest of company and memories we'll treasure for the future. From the northern lights on our first evening to nights in the hot tub and everything in between. I've never been somewhere before and left knowing there's still so much more to explore there, especially after the full itinerary we covered during our stay here. It is a magical place full of impressive scenery around every corner and landscapes that change greatly depending where you are in the country. This is a country of firsts and experiences and sights unavailable anywhere else.
The company we shared made this trip and that alongside the moments and our epic road trip playlist made this truly unforgettable.
